- Marketing Coordinator at a small publishing company, focusing on trade and children’s titles
- Pretty obsessed with children’s and young adult literature
- Also pretty obsessed with tea, puppies, needlework, rainy days, and pancakes. Mostly pancakes.
I graduated from college in May of 2012 with a degree in English and a triple minor in Creative Writing, Classical Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
(Yeah, do not add three minors to your program, by the way. The registrar’s office will NOT be thrilled with you.)
I had several opportunities in college. First was getting a job working with children. Second was taking a class in Young Adult Literature as well as a class in Children’s Literature in Multicultural Societies. Third was having the chance to learn from famous authors – most notably, the late Walter Dean Myers.
I entered college not having a clue what I wanted to do. I left knowing quite firmly that I wanted a place in the young adult literature world.
Open books open doors and when young people see themselves in literature, they feel empowered and capable. I want to give young people those opportunities. And that is why I read these books and promote them as much as I can.
Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep telling your stories to the world.
